Gen 2 is live! -This post is updating with new info constantly

Greetings Trainers!

Folks weren't expecting the release of Generation 2 until some time later this week, but Niantic surprised us by releasing Generation 2 Pokemon this afternoon at approx. 3pm PST! If you hadn't heard, the Valentine's Day 6-hour Lure event was also extended until Saturday, so you have time to use your Lures to try and lure up some Gen 2 Pokemon! New berries have also been released, which includes Nanab berries, which make a Pokemon less likely to run, and Pinap berries, which grant the trainer double candies upon capture.

Be on the lookout for prevolutions of new powerful Pokemon like Larvitar, Phanpy, Teddiursa, and Mareep! Also be on the lookout for strong Pokemon like Heracross. And if you have candies available, you can now evolve new Pokemon like Blissey, Scizor, Porygon2, and many more! Maybe pop a Lucky Egg before you do and go on an evolving spree while reaping the benefits of all these new Pokedex entries!

UPDATE 3:30pm PST: Apparently moves have also been re-balanced. More on this as we learn the details, but moves like Psychic, Flamethrower, Dazzling Gleam etc... have been given new damage outputs. For now, catch everything you can and try not to transfer too much!

e.g. Confusion now has 20 base damage, and Psychic is a 100-energy 100 base damage move.

UPDATE 4:00pm PST: The game is chugging like crazy, including store interactions. If you get an error message saying your purchase did not go through, DON'T BELIEVE IT! I just went to the store and tried to purchase a bag upgrade and it gave me the error repeatedly. I checked back later, and my coin purse was emptied and I'd purchased multiple bag upgrades.

UPDATE 4:20pm PST: Eevee naming trick exists! Use "Tamao" for Umbereon and "Sakura" for Espeon.

UPDATE 4:30pm PST: Lapras' CP has been updated. Its new CP likely matches the CP calculator that is used for all other Pokemon. For those who were unaware, Lapras was a weird exception to the CP update last November. It looks like, with the release of Gen 2, Lapras' maximum CP is now ~2604. Its stats used to be 186/190/260. Now its stats are:

Attack: 164
Defence: 180
Stamina: 260
This massively changes how effective a defender Lapras is. Notably, it's lost a lot of its Attack power.

UPDATE 4:45pm PST: For Pokemon with multiple, item-dependent evolutions, here is what the screen looks like:

UPDATE 5:05pm PST: New XP bonuses have been applied to catches, including "First Throw" and "Quick Throw."

UPDATE 6:30pm PST: Increased candies for catching evolved Pokemon. You get five candies when you catch a stage 1 Pokemon, and 10 candies for a stage 2 Pokemon.

Get out and GO!

Cheers,
Let's GO
